The story behind

For eleven days, nobody knew where she was.

In December 1926, the greatest crime writer alive became her own mystery. Agatha Christie's car was found abandoned by a chalk pit; the queen of detective fiction had vanished. A thousand policemen searched for her. Eleven days later she reappeared in a hotel under another name — and for the rest of her life, she never explained what had happened.

She wrote sixty-six novels and gave every one of them an ending. This portrait holds her the way she held her secret: composed, courteous, and absolutely unwilling to tell. The one case Agatha Christie never let anyone solve was her own.

The process

Drawn by hand. Nothing digital.

Each piece begins with an archival fineliner and weeks of hatching — thousands of intersecting strokes laid down one at a time, with no undo and no layers. There is no tablet and no filter at any stage of the original: heavyweight cotton paper, permanent lightfast ink. What you see is exactly what the pen left behind.

One drawing takes longer than most people spend reading the novel that inspired it.

The original pieces are drawn in 100% cotton paper 300gsm, and the fine art prints are made on archival cotton paper designed to last for decades without fading.
