The story behind
He walked this path. He never said where it led.
In Rennes-le-Château, the priest Bérenger Saunière built more than a tower. Along the edge of the hill he laid a long stone walkway, a belvedere looking over the whole valley. At one end stands the Tour Magdala, where he kept his library. At the other, a glass orangery.
He walked this path while the village wondered where his money came from. He never told. The path is still there, worn by a century of visitors, and it still leads to the same unanswered question.
The S of Saunière, hidden under the battlements.
A Gothic window, drawn stone by stone.
Someone is waiting by the trees. Nobody knows who.

The process
Drawn by hand. Nothing digital.
Each piece begins with an archival fineliner and around twelve hours of hatching — thousands of intersecting strokes laid down one at a time, with no undo and no layers. There is no tablet and no filter at any stage of the original: heavyweight cotton paper, permanent lightfast ink. What you see is exactly what the pen left behind.
